Robert “Bob” Dale Wehmeier, 85, of Paola, Kansas, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday July 3, 2016 in Paola surrounded by his family. Loved by all that knew him, Bob was a veteran, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a constant friend.

Bob was born February 13, 1931 in Beatrice, Nebraska. He was the middle of seven children born to Walter and Flora (Brunkhorst) Wehmeier. He grew up in Alta Vista, Kansas and graduated from high school there. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force November 19, 1951. Bob fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant Robert Wehmeier on November 18, 1955.

Bob was united in marriage to Donna Johnson on April 22, 1951 in Alta Vista, Kansas. Together they lived in Alta Vista, Kansas City, and Ottawa before making their home in Paola. Bob and Donna became the proud parents of two children. Over their 51 years of marriage, we were witness to their strong family bond and devotion to God. Bob and Donna were long time, devoted members of the First Lutheran Church of Paola. Bob worked for the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller until his retirement. He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, watching sports and eating breakfast regularly with his close friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, who died April 29, 2002, a brother Walter Wehmeier, a sister Gertrude Danielson and a granddaughter Abby Jo Wehmeier. He is survived by two children, James “Mike” Wehmeier and his wife Debbie of Denver, Colorado, and Janet Lewis and her husband Gregg of Osawatomie, Kansas, as well as four siblings Gilbert Wehmeier, Melvin Wehmeier, Lois Boerger and Norma Fearey. Bob has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Bob Wehmeier loved, lived, and worked hard. His legacy will live on through the influence he created by loving his family and friends. He was a gentle, compassionate man, who will be greatly missed.

Donations in Bob’s name can be made to the First Lutheran Church.
