To the VanReen Family, so sorry for your loss of Luann, I will always have memories of Luann in High school, she always had a smile on her face and friendly to everyone. She will be dearly missed, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and her family.
Joe Oldham, Class of (84)
~ Joseph Oldham - November 17, 2016
I had the honor of meeting Lu back in the 80s thru Marcie Zimmerman. We all had so much fun going to concerts and living life to its fullest. Then later on Lu and I both became nurses and we both ended up working for HCOK. Lu loved being a mom and being a nurse. She will always be in my heart. My prayers to Sean, Taylor and her family. God Bless!!!
~ Deborah Mitzner - November 17, 2016
Sean and Taylor, I just recently learned of LuAnn's untimely death. I remember how excited you were when you brought Taylor home. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My deepest sympathy,
Pat Lipovitz

Sean and Taylor,
Al and I are unable to come today. Please know we sincerely loved LuAnn. She renamed Al (Jackson) after a get together in Paola with steaks, good fellowship and keroki.
LuAnn had a way of getting people together and to all play nice.
I met LuAnn the first time as a surveyor from the Lawrence office when she was DON in Louisburg. Then reconnected when I started working at HCOK. The first thing she said was:"I see you've left the Dark side and came over to the Light." We laughed about that many times.
LuAnn, I hope to see you again in the real light of the life above.
~ Kay Dimmitt - November 16, 2016

LuAnn will always hold such a special place in my heart and memory. She was my favorite babysitter as a very young child. She taught me to roller skate, she always knew how to get me out my dress and into something better for playing outside and even playing a crazy game of pushing combs under the closet door. To more recently she gave me a hard time about the color of my new house, when describing which house we bought I described it as the "K-State" house, those that know her would know what she would say to that. To Sean, Taylor, her mom, dad, siblings extended family and friends-lots of prayers.
~ Abbie Perina - November 15, 2016
So sorry to hear about your tragic loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
~ Mill Valley High School Booster Club - November 15, 2016
I didn't realize this until I read these tributes, that I met LuAnn when she worked at Shawnee Gardens. My Mom was there in late 2013 and 2014.
She was a very caring and hard working individual. I am sure she gave as much support to many more families like mine.
My condolences to the VanRheen and Fahey families.

what a beautiful friend u always were to me. 1988 we spent going to a few classes together. Then u thought me 3 classes and I passed them all. I remember when Taylor came to class with us and we always had such a great time, Taylor was playing and making a great time with all the toys, she was louder than the class and we got to get out of class.I passed all Lou An classes and she and I worked together in 3 different places. I often ran into her and we would say hay buddy and give a gift of a gab to each other. Lou Ann was a beautiful peson and I loved her very much and will always remember how much fun at class and work we had. may God bless her caring of all the clients and staff members, her dearist friend. Luann was a wonderful soul. The first time I met her was when her friend Dawna dated my brother. I then had the pleasure of working with her and her mother Linda. Last winter my son was in the hospital at Olathe, even though her own loved one was there also, LuAnn took time to sit and give me comfort. We will miss your smile and comforting words. Peace and comforting prayers to the family.
~ Wilma wobker - November 11, 2016
LuAnn's mom Linda and I became friends even before our daughters were born. Years later, when they were in Junior High School, they became friends and remained that way all these years later. Both were RN's so shared that love of their profession. LuAnn was a sweet happy young girl and had an infectious giggle. She lives on in many special memories of my daughter Michelle and myself. My thoughts and prayers go to her parents, husband and beautiful daughter Taylor.
With love,
Mary Bradshaw

Luann, Im so glad i got to meet you. Your friendship was very important to my wife kelle and myself. You are already missed. Rest now my friend, we will see each other again........
~ David Sanfilippo - November 11, 2016
As the Vice President of Clinical for Skilled Healthcare I was blessed with many amazingly talented DON's. LuAnn was exceptional in a group of exceptional nurses. She had such joy and passion for her job and her love of her residents and staff knew no bounds. I never had a conversation with her that she did not fill me in on Taylor's activities and tell me how blessed she was to have this remarkable girl to love. And that love was boundless. We kept in touch after my job ended and she had moved to other roles. A day with a call, text or facebook post from her was automatically a better day. She loved life, all people and family. She not only was a joy but she brought joy wherever she went. I loved her and will miss having her on this earth. She made me a better person and friend by her example. Rest dear angel as when we reunite one day a great time will be had by all.
~ Tina Hayes - November 11, 2016

Sean, Taylor, Linda and family...
Luann was such a wonderful person! She taught me so much when I started my first job at Louisburg as a cna about 15 years ago, put up with my sassy teenage mouth, and made sure I got my butt to work every day. If the roads were bad, she would either come get me or have her husband give me a ride. And she urged me to get my CMA , which by the way she was the best Teacher ever! She was there when my mom passed away. Luann always saw the best in everyone, and had a smile that lit up the room.
Taylor, I remember how excited your mom was when they went to China to bring you home . Your mom loved you so so much! Always remember the happy memories you two shared. She will always be there with you , watching over you. Just watch for the signs.
You all are in our prayers, I'm so sorry for your loss...

Sean, Taylor, Linda and Jerry my prayers are with you, LuAnn taught me a lot about how people are and how they think, how to support and comfort the hospice patients and families we cared for and I could only hope to be a fraction as good at caring for them as she was, she was a great nurse, friend, and boss, and I will miss her terribly. I regret not being able to go with her to a former co-workers memorial in October, I missed a great opportunity to spend some time with her that wasn't over the phone. I know she will live on through all the people she has taught and influenced throughout her life and career. I know she is looking down on everyone from heaven, because she earned her wings long ago. Again, you are in my prayers.
With much love, Gloria Bresee
~ Gloria Bresee - November 11, 2016
Sean- So sorry for you and your family. Thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time.
~ Pam Nelson - November 11, 2016
My favorite memory of LuAnn is when she was one of the"Spice Girls" in a skit that was put on at Louisburg Care Center. It was so hilarious and so much fun. I have numerous memories of her that I will cherish forever. She always made me feel special even when I didn't feel that I was. I love you LuLu! Fly high on those wings you so earned!!!
~ Leona Canaday - November 11, 2016
LuAnn was so very special to us. She was my husband's, Larry, hospice nurse and went above the job to take care of us, even coming over at 6:30 in the morning to get him ready to travel to Iowa for our granddaughter's wedding. LuAnn surprised me the day before her accident by coming over just to check on me and making sure I was OK. I will alway have fond, fond memories of her as she helped Larry's homegoing easier. Our prayers are with her family, especially Taylor and Sean. May God give you the peace that passeth all understanding.
~ Lois Hardeman - November 11, 2016
Heartfelt condolences to the family on this tragic death. You will be in our prayers.
Bruce and Robin Droge
~ Bruce Droge - November 11, 2016
I worked in the nursing field with LuAnn and she taught my CNA class in Louisberg. She was so loving, caring and so in touch with my goals.
Now in Kansas City, I found LuAnn in a facility in Shawnee. I called and we were reunited. Oh what a happy day for me. We had a long visit.
I just want to say, LuAnn was so Loved by so many, and she returned that love to all.
My husband & I were returning from Iola, driving North on 169 highway, we saw there had been a wreck, little did I know it was my dear friend.
Rest in Peace LuAnn, I will always remember you. With Love, Judith
~ Judith McGhee - November 11, 2016
Sunshine, laughter and always ready to tell a joke. A wonderful caring person, always ready to lend a listening ear. She was my hospice clinical director at HCOK,. Before a clinical director we were the south team in rural areas. Such a loving and giving person. You will be missed!!!!

My deepest sympathies to LuAnn's family. I met her in 2008 when I adopted my son from China. She was so eager to share her experiences of traveling and adopting from China. In just the few hours I spent with her I knew she was one of those very special souls that has such a deep love for others. Taylor, she was so proud to be your mom and spoke of you with a pride that only another mother can understand. This world is a little less bright without LuAnn.
~ Sherrie Hanson - November 11, 2016
LuAnn was a wonderful friend to my Dad, Floyd for years when they worked together as nurses for Hospice Care of Kansas and for years after. There are just no words to express how sorry I am that she was taken so young. We never understand why good people are taken so young. LuAnn was a beautiful soul who constantly gave of herself. She was actually a comfort to my siblings and I when Dad passed away 2 years ago. I know he must have been surprised to see her at the gates of Heaven. Their friendship was a special one. My prayers for peace and comfort are with all who loved LuAnn, especially Sean and Taylor. LuAnn will be missed so dearly. My heart will ache for a long time grieving the loss of such a wonderful, loving and dynamic woman.
~ Katie (Herrell) Rich - November 11, 2016
Lu was a dear friend and awesome nurse that took me under her wing on day 1 at Hospice Care of Ks. She made me feel so comfortable and loved. Always eager to help or listen to me. I have been best friends with LuAnn's Mom, Linda for way over 50+ years. We met Taylor whe she was very small when Grandma Linda came to our house for a visit. We got to know LuAnn very well as she came as a friend to help me with medical issues. We could always visit with her any time about any medical or just talk on the phone to visit. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, nurse, wife, sister and a very good friend. She was a very sweet and caring prson. She did not have a bad bone in her body. Always caring and putting everyone ahead of herself. She was a beautiful person inside and out and she will be greatly missed. Heaven just received a wonderful angel. I will miss talking with you. May you RIP my dear friend.

LuAnn was one of our favorite babysitters for our young sons. We would come home and often find her rocking one of the babies. As an adult she was very knowledgeable and caring in the field of nursing especially seniors. She will be missed. We are so very sorry
~ Mary Miller - November 10, 2016
I will always remember the first time I met LuAnn at our entrance exam for nursing school. LuAnn, Gail Gilliland and I became great friends that day. When I think back to nursing school and beginning our careers in nursing, my thoughts always go to the three of us. When I had my son, Dalton, I didn't want to leave him with anyone but I had to attend a meeting at work. LuAnn knew my anxiety about leaving my baby boy and she took the day off work to come and stay with him. That's my friend that I will miss. She knew what I needed and always gave of herself unselfishly with a smile that will never stop. I can't imagine that my friend is gone. Her laugh, her smile and her love will live on. My prayers to her family and friends as we will all miss this special person.
~ Kristy (Hash) McAninch - November 10, 2016
To the Vanrheen family I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Lulu. Every time I got a chance to see her she would always tease me about babysitting me as a child. I don't think I ever saw her with anything but a smile on her face. She was an amazing woman.
~ Mike Gage - November 10, 2016
Taylor and Shawn, all Luann's friends are devastated, in shock and grieving deeply. We are so sorry for your loss and ours. Doesn't seem real. We are so sorry. God love you and comfort you, sadly, Mary Shelley
~ Mary Shelley - November 10, 2016
I will miss my dear friend LuAnn. We first met when my mom got on hospice about 8 months ago. She was my rock when my mom was close to death and was always there to answer my questions, anytime night or day and insisted that I contact her if I needed her. My mom is still with us and I truly believe it was due to LuAnn's guidance and helping care for her. We actually ended up being pretty good friends, but who wouldn't? She was the most likeable person I have ever met in my life! Heaven has now received a wonderful nurse and human being. My condolences go out to her husband and daughter and all the rest of her family. She will be SADLY missed!
~ Debi McLaughlin-James - November 10, 2016
LuAnn is still in our hearts. Her laughter and smile. Her humor and loving ways will shine brightly in our memories. We first met LuAnn when she was a young teen living next door to our aunt and uncle. She was infectious with her outgoing spirit and fun loving attitude. We soon were amazed by LuAnn and her abilities and spirit. She was our youngest child's first babysitter. In fact, she was one of the only people in the world we would trust to watch our kids. When they were with her we knew they were safe and well cared for. Even into adulthood, her outgoing and purposeful way of living served her well. She became a wonderful nurse who truly cared for her patients like family. She was a force to be reckoned with if something was not right. She was a person you always wanted in your corner. Though through the years we did not see her as often, her memories are forever with us. Her greatest joy and biggest accomplishment was Taylor. Her sweet baby girl that she loved with all her being. It is not fair that Taylor won't have her Mom there for her as she approaches adulthood. But, Taylor, you can be sure your Mom is watching over you and if you listen, she will guide you and be with you always. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go to all of LuAnn's family. She was one of kind and will sorely missed.
