Joan Windler died peacefully at Olathe Medical Center after complications of surgery on July 17, 2015 at the age of 86.

Joan was born on September 1, 1928 in Miami County to Marvin and Grace Jamison. She graduated from Fontana High School and married Loren Lee Windler, her high school sweetheart on July 12, 1948. Over the next 10 years, the couple welcomed four children into their home. She then graduated from Ottawa University with a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology and from the University of Kansas with a master’s in education. She began working for Prairie View High School as an English teacher. She retired from Prairie View High School after 20 years of teaching.

Joan was an accomplished pianist and ballroom dancer. She often entered competitions all over the United States. In her later years, she developed a real passion for gardening. She was an active and dedicated member of the First Lutheran Church in Paola, Kansas for over 65 years. Her children remember her as a patient mother who loved quilting and gardening.

Joan is survived by her children and their spouses, Pam Thompson (Bill) of Paola, Phil Windler of Paola, David Windler (Grace) of Tonganoxie, Frederick Windler (Julie) of Osawatomie. She was blessed with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, John Jamison (Judea) of Fontana, and sister, Genevieve Hollinger (Buck) of Paola.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Loren Lee Windler, sister, Virgina Chesbro of Wellsville and parents, Marvin and Grace Jamison of Fontana.

A visitation will be Monday, July 20, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola, Ks. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 21st at 9:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church with a burial to follow at Miami Memorial Gardens. Pastor Vogts and Pastor Crouch will officiate the ceremony, all are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Lutheran Church or to Prairie View School District for educational programs.

The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Olathe Medical Center for their care and dedication.
