As a student of the famous Don Salerno from the years 1975. To graduating in 1979 Mr.Salser was a good friend with lots of inspiration to me. In the past few years in SD. at Mt Rushmore I met another friend of Dons who was a teacher at the Middle school/High school which was before my time .This brought up fond memories of this amazing man and good friend to all of us ! Yes Mr Don Salser will truly be missed .

So sorry to hear about Don. The last time I saw him I was on a medical call at Cedar Lake Village a couple of years ago before I retired with the Olathe Fire Department. I had him as a teacher all four years through High School. I always credited him with the drawing and design skills I have used many times working construction over the years. I know he got a kick when I credited him with my design we used on the new Paola Fire Station. He taught me how to visualize what was possible. Thanks for that Don.

I too want to share in offering my condolences to Dons family. I still use the basic things in drawing my demensions that I learned in my drafting class from him. I nor my family at that time had ever been in or done any construction but I have for over 30 yrs now. Possibly due to the interest I learned while in his class. I also have a piece of Salser history you might enjoy hearing about! A piece of pine wood door trim removed from the old PMS/PHS during the fire station conversion. On the back was a written message from Don Salser and Paul Phillips. "Closed up door June 1959". Just came a crossed it this week here with me in Hawaii!

I just learned of Mr Salser's passing and wanted to send my regards to his family and friends. He was my drafting teacher from 79-83 at PHS. He was intimidating when we first met him, but after the first year we learned he was a Pretty cool guy and was a Great teacher. I still have my blueprints from my Senior year and actually used a lot of what he taught as I ended up with a career in the construction industry....Lots of things have changed in home designs since he taught us the basics....Very sorry to hear of his passing, but Glad he lived such a long fulfilling life and Greatful for the experience of knowing him..........Nat Hubbard........Mascot and student of Class of 83.

Naomi, Debbie, Christy--
I am so sorry for your loss! Don started out as a terrific architectural drawing teacher and, over the years, became a good friend to me and especially to my family. I have a few of his woodwork pieces and have always treasured them because of their beauty and precision. Now I will also treasure them as beloved keepsakes created by a special friend.

One of my favorite teachers at Paola High school. Worked with him many years at Kansas IronWorks. Help inspire me to be thorough and always do my best.
~ Steve carter - November 20, 2015
When I moved to Cedar Lake Village 2 years ago, I was fortunate to live across the hall from Don and Naomi. Don was a wonderful neighbor. I have admired his beautiful woodwork. He was an excellent craftsman. I wish I had known him longer.

My family and I would like to express our deepest sympathy over the loss of your beloved Donald. May you find comfort in your loving memories and the warmth of family and friends. A scripture that has uplifted me during times such as this is found at Revelation 21:4. There it describes a time when death and pain will be gone forever after God restores his original purpose for the earth. We will even see our loved ones again who we have lost in death (John 5:28 & 29). It is my hope that these words bring you a measure of comfort during this difficult time as well. Once again, please accept my condolences as you deal with your loss.

Naomi and family
How sad to lose such a good friend , father and husband. Think I we are so blessed to have had your family in our lives. We have wonderful keepsakes from Don's talent. You have been on my mind lately before this sadness, just so sorry I didn't act on it. With school, Sears, church and Earl living so close we had many good times together. May God comfort you in this time of need.
~ Lon and Mary Ann Thornton - November 18, 2015
My condolences to Mr Salser's family. I was fortunate enough to have him for two drafting classes while in high school in Paola in the early 70's. "Did you bring enough of that candy for everyone?" Or "You can't use a front door template to design a garage door!" will always be two of my favorite memories. While he could be tough, I always looked forward to his class because I knew he cared and felt there was a good chance I could learn something new! A good man and a great teacher. Something that is hard to find.
~ Doug McKaig - November 18, 2015

Mr. Donald Salser was my favorite teacher in high school. He did so much for the school that I know he will be fondly remembered for years to come.

My arrows when I drew a line in mechanical drawing were rarely right! Mostly got the dreaded red circle around them! Mr Salser's insistence on doing your best influenced me the rest of my life!
~ Bruce Sharp - November 17, 2015
I sure am sorry to hear about Mr. Salser's passing. He was my mechanical drawing teacher and a great teacher he was. He will be missed by all.
