Debra (Deb) Bernice Burchett, passed away January 1st, 2016, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 60.

Deb was preceded in death by her brother, Dana Bigelow; maternal grandparents, Bernice and Harry Quaintance; adopted father, Dean Bigelow; biological father, Fred Stewart; stepfather and grandfather to her daughters, Calvin Knapp. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, James “J.D.” Burchett of Hillsdale, KS; her daughter Jami (Aaron) Thomas of Clarskville, TN; daughter Joni (Andrew) Reed of Paola KS; Grandsons A.J., Tucker and Cooper Reed; her mother, Beverly Knapp of Wellsville, KS, brother Larry Bigelow of Topeka and several nieces and nephews.

Deb was born on April 13th, 1955 in Garnett, Kansas. As a child she lived in several small towns throughout Kansas but always felt “home” at her Grandmother and Grandad Quaintance’s house in Centerville, KS. Deb married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, J.D. on May 4th, 1974. They made their home in Fontana, Kansas until 1988 when they moved to Hillsdale, KS. Deb owned Deb’s Beauty Shoppe in Paola, where she enjoyed serving her clients, their comradery, love and friendship and employees that often became more like family. Her love of cooking was shared with many, and her helping hand and generous spirit was felt by all who knew her. To know Deb was to feel her love.

Deb was full of life. Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed fishing and traveling, cooking and sewing, serving and giving. She always believed her life was “pretty close to perfect.” We will keep her spirit alive through stories, memories and lending a helping hand to others…until we meet again.

Memorials to the Miami County Cancer Foundation.
