Jean Tippit, of Paola, passed away on January 15, 2016 at age 88. She suffered a stroke just 5 weeks after the death of her husband of 69 years, Vaughn “Tip” Tippit, of Paola. Jean was born in Butler, Missouri, on July 9, 1927 to Ruby and Leo Huston. She was married to Tip in Joplin, Missouri, on October 4, 1946, and they have lived in Paola since 1955.

Jean was a bookkeeper and a whiz with numbers. She worked alongside her husband at Tippit Construction Company and at Pemco in Paola. She enjoyed reading, doing games and puzzles, playing the slot machines, and Happy Hour. Jean played in a bridge club in Paola for 50 years. She traveled the country with Tip and was a beloved volunteer at Organ Pipe National Monument and other national parks. She was an accomplished bicycler and skier. Jean was a huge sports fan and almost never missed a Royals, Chiefs, or Jayhawks basketball game. Her family would like to thank the K.C. Royals for winning the World Series while Jean was alive.

Jean was loved and respected by all who knew her. She taught her children to live by the Golden Rule, and reminded them that if you can’t say something nice about someone, then don’t say anything at all. In her 88 years she never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She was a woman of remarkable strength and grace who will be remembered for her intelligence and independence.

Jean is survived by her son Steve Tippit of Denver, CO; daughters Nancy (Bill) Kohl of Denver, CO, Judy Liesmann of Topeka, and Jane (Tom) Newman of Paola; as well as her sister Joann (Todd) Stokes of Texas. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many friends.

Cremation. Private services.
