Harold Fredrick Brandt, age 89, of Paola, Kansas died April 21, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center. Harold, commonly known as Buck, was born December 8, 1926 to Gert and Lena (Guey) Brandt in Block, Kansas community. He was the eldest boy in a family of 4 boys and 3 girls.

Buck married Nellie Louise McCoy on December 23, 1955 in Paola. Together they raised 5 boys, Charles (aka Bus), Harold, Jr., Garrett (aka Rusty), Rodney, and Raylin.

Buck served his country in the Army, in Iwo Jima, during the Korean War. Before and after his time in the Army he worked a total of 41 years for Taylor Forge in Paola. He retired in 1991.

Buck was a devout family man. He was most happy when surrounded by his wife and sons and their families. The small children all loved their "Papa".

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gert and Lena; 3 brothers- Damon, Cecil, and Robert; 2 sisters- Ethel Benedict and Mabel Weer; and his eldest son Charles.

Survivors include Nellie Louise Brandt of the home; 4 sons- Harold, Jr. of Manhattan, Kansas, Rusty (Rebecca), Rodney, Raylin (Tresa) of Paola, Kansas; one sister, Beverly Martin of Lenexa, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola, Kansas. Visitation will precede the funeral at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the American Kidney Foundation.
