Lois G. Grubbs, 99, of Osawatomie, formerly of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on October 30, 2014 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

She was born on September 16, 1915, Mapleton, Kansas to Mark and Clara (VanBuskirk) Sutterby. She was the second of their five children.

On May 17, 1942 she married Richard Kent Grubbs at Girard, Kansas. Before settling in Chanute, Kansas, they lived all over the country due to her husband's military service.

Lois taught second grade for over 20 years at Chanute, Kansas. She was a member of the Chanute Retired Teachers Association. Lois also assisted her husband as owner and operator of Midwest Auto in Chanute.

Lois enjoyed sewing, playing card games and board games. She and her husband traveled after they retired and worked in National Parks as camp hosts. Lois' strong will lead her to be known in her family as "The Captain."

Lois is survived by her sister Marclaire Barber of Burlington, Colorado; her nieces Arleta Ohlmeier and Leanna Stanchfield of Paola, Karen Watson of Springfield, Missouri and Maureen Eden of Wichita, Kansas; her nephew Alan Barber of North Carolina; and many other great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died July 5, 1996, one sister Josephine Boyd, and two brothers Leland and Mark Sutterby.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Lee Sutterby Scholarship Memorial at Caney, Kansas and can be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl, Paola, KS, 66071.
