Virginia LaRue Erwin, age 90, of Paola, Kansas, passed away on July 9, 2016 in Paola, Kansas. She was born December 25, 1925 in Oak Creek, Routt County, Colorado to Walter R. and Clara L. (Wedlich) Skinner. Virginia grew up in Mt. Harris, Colorado and is a graduate of Hayden High School in Colorado, class of 1946. She married Dr. Bennie Grove Erwin in 1951 in Hayden, Colorado. They had three children, Kevin, Terrie and Carolyn.

Virginia lived in Shawnee, Kansas and worked at Shawanoe Elementary School until her retirement at which time she and her husband moved permanently to their farm in Paola, Kansas. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, spending weekends at their farm in Paola before retirement, painting, ceramics, and reading. Virginia would fondly tell stories to her children and grandchildren about growing up in Mt. Harris, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Clara (Wedlich) Skinner and all of her brothers and sisters, Charlotte, Phyllis, Ken, Gene and Jim.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Dr. Bennie G. Erwin; son, Kevin (Donna) Erwin and daughters Terrie Erwin and Carolyn (Tom) Nicks all of Shawnee Mission, Kansas and five grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Daniel, Ben and Raymond, along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorials to donor's choice. Options: Special Olympics, favorite animal shelter, or church.

Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Lighthouse Presbyterian Church, 1402 E. 303 St., Paola, KS. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service with Rev. Brad Buescher officiating.
