Cole Michael Plummer, age 28, of Paola, KS passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

Cole was born April 8, 1988 to Joseph Lawrence Plummer and Diana Louise (Good) Plummer of Paola. Cole attended Paola schools and was a lifelong resident of Paola.

The youngest of five children, Cole was his father’s pride and joy and his mother’s sweet baby boy. His sisters and brothers doted on him completely as he filled the family home with love, laughter and adventure. His humor and cleverness were evident from a young age and many friends and teachers remember him for being witty and funny.

As a child, Cole was a Ninja Turtle, a son of Swamp Thing, and most importantly, a Real Ghostbuster. He read adamantly throughout his life, especially suspense novels. As an adult he enjoyed non-fiction including history and true crime, and developed a special love for Steven King. Young Cole was highly creative and spent hours constructing Lego cities and illustrating his own hilarious comic book series, ‘The Y Men.'

Cole held a deep conviction for fairness and a special compassion for animals and people who were disadvantaged or suffering. He would go out of his way to alleviate the suffering of animals, and cared for his beloved chihuahuas, Lucha and Zora, as if they were his own children.

Cole was happiest when he was serving others. During his five-year position as a Direct Support Professional at Lakemary Center in Paola, his kind heart, empathy for others and his attention to detail truly shined through while he worked with both the children and adults in his care. He was also a great playmate of his nieces and nephews, and the children of his friends.

Cole’s greatest love in life was music. He especially enjoyed the genre of Punk Rock for its powerful sound and its ideologies of individualism, authenticity, freedom and equality. Cole made connections and built lasting friendships with people all over the country and world through music. An avid concert goer, he saved his money to travel as far as San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas to hear and support the musicians he believed in. This spirit of adventure and independence grew his desire for travel. Cole also enjoyed stitching and assembling his own Punk Rock clothing and apparel.

Cole was strong, fiercely independent, highly intelligent and deeply compassionate. He often used the word steadfast as a reminder to himself of the person he strived to be. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Cole is preceded in death by his grandmother Ethelene A. Plummer and great grandmother Anna M. Rockley.

He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Diana Plummer; sisters Angie (Mike) Smith, Katie (Brad) Griffin and Mari (Chad Fonfara) Johann; and brother Matt (Jodi) Johann. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces: Drew, Emersyn and Livvy Smith, Brielle and Bayler Griffin, and Jace Johann; by his chihuahuas Lucha and Zora Plummer; and by many close cousins and friends.

I was so saddened to hear of Cole's passing from a mother who used to bring her child to story hour at the Library when Cole was also a story hour kid. I fondly remember my story hour kids! I also remember his mom and sisters bringing him to the library when he was very little, still a baby actually. I'm glad to read that he continued to be an avid reader.

Such a nice, respectful, and quiet young man, and I grieve with all of you, his family. I know what it is like to lose a child. If this picture is a good likeness, I will say that Cole certainly became a handsome young man. I wish I could have known him recently as it is always great to see kids you knew as children, all grown up. I remember that Cole used to work at the library too. I don't know if that was his first job, but it sounds like he has been working recently at a job he truly enjoys, and that's great.

You may think that you will never recover from this tragedy, but even though you will always grieve, the heaviness of your sadness will lighten as time goes by, and you will have all the good memories to hold dear and to keep you sustained. Don't be afraid to talk about him aloud, to keep his memory alive, to know that his life made a difference in yours and others. I'm crying now as I write this, both for Cole and for my son, because life is not fair. But love will carry you through.

I am writing to you from the computer we used to talk. I will always remenber you and won't forget.
We used to spend hours and hours talking about our stuff for years on Soulseek or on Facebook. Also, I remenber when we used to cam at night and have some fun together . I learned a lot of slang words you tought me and I definitely improved my English ^^.
I would have loved to meet you and I wish I could have helped you in your bad days. I want you to know your Spanish friend will never forget you and will be there for you.

I just remembered being an eight year old boy, being shelled up because I had just lost my grandmother. My church "forced" me into a float trip, and that's where I met cole. We kicked it off immediately, and next thing I knew we were back in town taking over with our bikes. Couldn't be stopped. We just hit road after road after road, until we couldn't hardly move. I couldn't have asked for a better friend. He stood by me no matter what. His parents were always kind until we had gone "too far". Then we had to be separated. Same with school, we only had 2 classes together... I'm pretty sure they knew better. I remember cole sliding into third base of the minor league field, and getting his teeth knocked out by an in base grounder. All the countless hours at bull creek, coming back home filthy. Going super sayan on the mound of the of the playground with cameron and corey. Talking too girls, and about girls, and how crazy they are. Flip comics on post it notes with aaron. The first time we ever chiefed in the woods. If I could take it back to those days.. I'm going to miss you Cole Plummer, but I will never stop thinking of you. I will always have a place in my heart for you dude. Rest in peace.

My name is Orion Levi Heath. I wanted to take a moment to say that I am extremely sorry for the loss of Cole.
Cole was a very kind individual. I didn’t have too many friends growing up, I was very quiet, and a lot of people just didn’t seem to understand me. Cole was one of the few people who did take the time to get to know me, and it was extremely nice to have a friend like him. Often times I think that having a great friend like Cole, is what helped me through rough times in school. For me, Cole is what made me who I am today, without him, I would have gave up on school at a very young age. And I would not have been as happy and determined to succeed in my future. Cole played a pivotal moment in my life, he is what made me the Supervisor, Husband, and father that I am today. He will be missed, but never forgotten. And I believe that we will all see him again.

Cole and I shared a lot of memories together, both good and bad. A lot of the music I enjoy today is because of the influence Cole had on me. He had a unique taste for good music, and that rubbed off on me. I didn't realize how much so until I heard the news that he had passed away. It seems like half of the songs I heard on the radio was a reminder. I remember playing pool with cole, Greg, cam, Derek, and a few others at a birthday party when we were young, probably 10-12. And at that party Cole brought his CD's- Showing us all the new bands he liked, influencing us all. This continued throughout the years. This is how Cole's memory will live on in my life. Every Red Hot Chili Peppers song that comes on the radio, Linkin Park, STP....etc... this will keep his memory alive in my life. i wish we would've kept in touch the last four years. you were a great friend, my brother. -You were always there for me. I wish you were still here. We will never forget you my brother. I love you, I miss our friendship.
