Geneva Lea Bruch, age 60, of Beagle, KS, died Wednesday August 10, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS.

Geneva was born November 6, 1955 in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the first of four children born to Marvin and Elsie (Higginbotham) Waln. Geneva grew up attending school in Wellsville until her sophomore year where she began attending Paola High School when the family moved to the Paola area. Geneva graduated from Paola High School in 1973.

Geneva met future husband Mike Bruch on a blind date the Halloween of 1980 and married January 30, 1981. They made their home in Paola, Kansas where they began their family with the birth of Elijah Bruch on June 26, 1984, followed by their second son, Samuel Bruch, December 9, 1991. The family moved from Paola to Beagle, Kansas in 1995.

Geneva had a varied employment history as a dietary supervisor, a seamstress, and an elementary school resource aide.

Other than Geneva’s unconditional love for her family, one of her most prominent interests was her faith and service to the Lord. As a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Paola, she served as deaconess, assistant youth group leader, and part of several church committees.

Geneva was an avid reader, collecting and reading countless books over the years. She also enjoyed sewing, interior design, baking, crafts, playing cards, and attending auctions. Geneva enjoyed traveling the country on the back of her husband’s motorcycle all over the Midwest including an annual trip to Sturgis, South Dakota.

Geneva was preceded in death by her father Marvin Lee Waln.

Survivors include her husband Mike of the home; her mother Elsie of Paola, KS; and her two sons Elijah of Beagle, KS and Samuel (and fiancée Jess Holley) of Pittsburg, KS. Also surviving Geneva are her brothers Steve (and wife Denise) of Beagle, KS, John (and wife Lisa) of Beagle, KS; and her sister Susan Monahan of Overland Park. She leaves behind three nephews, four nieces, two great nephews, and one great niece. She also leaves behind a multitude of friends.

Memorial contributions can be made to Miami County Cancer Foundation.
