Robert A. Taylor, age 80, of Paola, Kansas, died August 13, 2016 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Robert was born September 20, 1935 at Somerset, Kansas. He was oldest of six children born to Harvey and Alice (McGowan) Taylor. He attended grade school in Somerset and graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1953.

Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Frye on February 21, 1960 in the First Lutheran Church at Paola. They made their home in Paola and became the parents of two sons.

He made his career as a fabricator working for Taylor Forge in Paola for 45 years.

Robert served in the National Guard.

Some of his favorite pastimes were going to garage sales, antiquing, bowling, gardening, scouting, and country western dancing.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and also the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley who died June 28, 1980, and a sister Nora.

He is survived by his sons Michael of Kansas City, Missouri and Timothy of Fountain Valley, California; three sisters Nancy Birge of Paola, Barbara Pelton of Harrisonville, and Betty Rankin of Louisburg; one brother Tom of Paola; 6 grandchildren Kelly, Keagan, Kelsey, Jordan, Amber, and Nicholas; one great grandson Harvey Taylor; many other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miami County Cancer Foundation or Miami County Historical Museum.
