I met Eric, Larry around 2004. The first day we met we became inseparable. It hurts to have just found out he is no longer with us. He was always happy and always giving. When I was pregnant he mailed be a baby name book. That was the kind of person he was. You will always be in my heart my friend. Just remembering all the good times we shared. The long phone conversations. The constant laughs. Love you forever. Until we meet again.
~ Latoya Woods - August 7, 2018
My family and I would like to express our deepest sympathy over the loss of Larry.
May you find comfort in your loving memories and the warmth of family and friends. A scripture that has uplifted many who have experienced such a loss, is found at Revelation 21:4. There it describes a time when death and pain will be gone forever. We will even see our loved ones again who we have lost in death (John 5:28 & 29). It is our hope that these words bring you a measure of comfort during this difficult time as well. Once again, please accept our condolences as you deal with your loss.

To Larry's family.
I did not know Larry well, but I was acquainted with him when he was attending Cross Point church here in Paola.
I believe all the good things said about him certainly true. I was surprised that his obituary did not say that his display of kindness and compassion was the result of his close walk with Jesus. He was an example of what a Christian should be. He is with Lord Jesus now. He did such a wonderful job fulfilling his purpose here on earth that
God needed him to receive his rewards for his example to all those who met him.
May the Lord comfort you in your time of loss.
Sincerely,
BARBARA SANDBERG

Condolences to the family for your loss. Understanding that you'll never know why and accepting that will help in the healing process. My family has dealt with this same issue as you know. May God bless and keep you all in His hands.

Larry Criddle taught two of my sons at Hillsdale Elementary and then again at Paola Middle School. He was an amazing teacher and I knew soon after meeting him, that he had followed his calling. Larry's tremendous compassion and ambition for teaching children meant he gave 100% all of the time. ... His community projects was yet another example of the great impact he had on so many lives. Rest in peace Larry Criddle. God blessed us with you and you will always be remembered. I send my most sincere condolences to all of Larry's family. May God bless you all and offer you the strength you need during this most difficult time of sorrow.
~ Lori McCracken - August 25, 2016
Will miss his smiling face! I wish we would have known what you were going through. RIP my friend.
~ sally seyler - August 24, 2016
I got to know Larry years ago while living in the same neighborhood. Our friendship started over gardening and continued over the years. He was always positive and smiling. I can't believe I won't see him around town or out at the garden. I will miss you. My condolences and prayers to the family.
~ Connie Whitaker - August 24, 2016
To all the family of Mr. Criddle:
My father and his family grew up with Mr. Criddle and his family in Osawatomie, KS and then I had the opportunity of becoming friends with nephews of Mr. Criddle when I myself was a child in Paola, KS.. Through these generations of connection, the Criddle family has always been uplifting and encouraging. I hope and pray for peace to be extended to you all during this time.
Respectfully submitted,
Toby Brown

As I struggle to grasp with the sudden death of my friend and former teammate Larry Criddle I am reminded of the many things that made him such a special human being. Not just the fact that he was gracious, thoughtful, unselfish, dedicated, principled, resolute, etc. but also that he was a tremendous inspiration to me and to so many others.
I am moved (but not surprised) by the outpouring of support for this man who lived for others and went out of his way to touch so many lives. His chosen profession (a teacher) maximized his ability to do just that as me made a difference for so many young people.
Larry was a fierce competitor which also exemplified his determination and the power of perseverance. While I didn’t know him in college I recall a story he told me about achieving new heights as a college athlete.
As a high jumper he needed to overcome barriers by setting goals (i.e. surpassing 7 feet) and one way to accomplish this was to place a line at the desired height around his room. Larry firmly believed that everyone should have clear, ambitious, bold visions that should be documented and he lived his life accordingly. As Larry wrote “Write down your vision; make it extraordinary, magnificent, and grand.”
These techniques which I believe helped Larry to overcome barriers and achieve new heights as a college athlete also helped him in his numerous accomplishments and distinctions after college including multiple teaching awards, his children’s book, the Paola Garden of HOPE, Regional Volleyball Champion, etc.
While Larry may not have had all of the advantages that others may have had in life he made the absolute most of the gifts he had and he had the unique ability to bring the best out of others as well.
Through the power of Larry’s enduring example he will continue to serve as an inspiration for me and my sincere hope is that Larry’s legacy will continue to inspire all of us to rise to challenges and achieve new heights in our own lives. Nothing would please Larry more.
~ Brian Ruf - August 24, 2016
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow and loss. Larry will be missed. He always had a smile on his face, he had an encouraging word and he loved teaching children. We played against Larry in many a Sunday evening volleyball games and he was always gracious, giving words of praise if you made a good play. He could have creamed all of us, but he didn't. His good works and his kindness can live on in each of us.

Hi my name is Kaylee Miller I was going to be one of his students this year. I'm a transfer, I'm new to Paola. I'very been wondering how he would teach me and how he taught. I'very heard many great stories about him. I wish I got to meet him. I am very sorry for your loss. I won't be able to come to the service, but if I did I know it would make me very sad even though I didn't know him. Again I am very sorry for your loss, and he and his family has lots of prayers and thought from me. Sincerely, Kaylee Miller
~ Kaylee Miller - August 23, 2016
I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Larry's passing. It doesn't seem real that he is gone. He was such a wonderful person that gave back so much to the community and inspired and uplifted so many people. I went to school with Larry and graduated the same year; I also worked at the children's home with him. The children just loved him; he was never one to just turn on the television and call it good. His group always had something to do! It was a particular treat for the children when Larry would put on some music and dance-everyone would get in on the fun! He is going to be so greatly missed by so many. The world has lost one of its rare jewels. Rest in peace with the Lord, Larry; you certainly worked enough down here.

The world as truly lost a beautiful soul. Every time I would see Larry he always had a kind word to say about my children and how much he loved them. My children Michael, Michelle and Brandon felt the same about their Mr. Criddle. He impacted their lives as well as many other children and adults alike in the Paola Community. He was a very kind, caring, loving and compationate man that will truly be missed. The community has lost but will never forget the wonderful soul of Larry Criddle. You Larry will truly be missed by all.
~ Sandra Wilkes - August 22, 2016
Larry was a wonderful friend and mentor. We worked together over 25 years ago. I truly was fortunate to work with him and learn from him. He was a wonderful friend and later when I had my own children Both of my children had the privelage of him teaching them both. Larry encouraged his friends and students to reach for the stars and to believe that they had with in them then power to excel and live the life they dream for if the worked hard and believed. He was a great friend mentor, Teacher and community member. He will truly be missed.

I do not remember how I first met Larry. It seems like I have always known him. He tap danced with Moms on Tap for several years and was always so upbeat, friendly, and caring. I...like so many others ...am devastated that he has left us. Such a remarkable man. RIP Larry. May our memories of you bring out the best in all of us. Your friend.
~ Nancy Kohl - August 21, 2016
Nearly a week has gone by and I am still unable to comprehend the magnitude of this outcome. I am grateful for having Larry in my life, I am a better person because of him. Larry was a special individual. His smile, warmth, hard work, spirituality, dedication, and ability to care and love everyone were just a few of his many gifts. We shared a joy of gardening, the outdoors and all things that make this place so beautiful. Thank you Larry for always being yourself. Rest in the arms of your mother my friend. I will miss you.
~ lisa K. Sims - August 20, 2016

Larry was one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever known. He brought out the very best in those around him and seemed to always think of others before himself. I am proud beyond description to have been his college coach and proud and thankful that he stayed in touch all the years since. My sincere condolences to all of Larry's family and loved ones. We have lost a magnificent, bright shining light in our lives. But because Larry was who he was, part of him will live on in all those he helped and influenced in his days on this earth.
~ Russ Jewett - August 20, 2016

The first time I met Larry was at the old Apple Market and I was so taken by how friendly and what a great outlook he had on things !! I was so taken by this young man and I knew he would do great things at whatever he did . He was so outgoing and pleasant to be around . When he talked about teaching his face would light up like a Christmas Tree !! He had so much life and love in his heart . He was such a Special Person to me . He gave me a much better outlook on life . I think Larry could do anything he ever set his mind to because he was just that special kind of person !!
~ Judy Kappler - August 20, 2016
If we can at least learn one thing from Larry , for me it was his love for life and compassion for others. May he rest in peace with Our Lord and Angels.
~ Shelly Mcmullin - August 20, 2016
Larry taught two of my children in 4 th grade at Hillsdale Elementary School. My daughter was in his class the year they made the large American Flag quilt and were invited to St Louis to display their flag at an event at the ST Louis Arch. That was a very special year my daughter will never forget. Two years later Larry taught my son the love of reading. Until that year my son had never picked up a book because he wanted to. That was a very special year for me. Both the children also participated in the play at the park program Larry started. This raised funds for the Hillsdale scholarship fund and taught the children so much about drama and doing for others.
The life lessons he taught every day changed all our lives forever!!!!!
I hope you always find joy when you recall his life.
~ Renee Gaus - August 20, 2016
I met Larry Criddle when I was 10 years old. He worked with me at a childrens home I use to live in. I came from STL Missouri & he really made me feel welcomed because I was so home sick & was crying like everyday. I was at the children's home until I was 12 years old. (Smile) I was so sad coming in and was even more sad when it was time for me to leave & go back home. I am 37 years old now. He was one of the best people I know and it was such an honor knowing him. He was just such a good guy who always tried helping everyone. We even kept in contact for awhile after I left. He was very energetic...always had us kids involved in all sorts of activities. I remember times he would push the chairs and couches back & we would sing and dance. I can honestly say he loved us kids. My condolences goes out to all his loved ones. He will be truly missed and never ever forgotten. I love you Mr. Larry Dean Criddle & may you forever Rest In Heaven.
Love Always,
~ Annie Hewlett - August 20, 2016
I was privileged to teach Larry when he was a student at Ottawa University. We knew then that he was going to be a special, excellent teacher. May God grant you comfort and strength in your time of sorrow.
~ Jan Lee - August 19, 2016
Working with Larry was a privilege. His enthusiasm was contagious. Larry's genuine concern for his colleagues and students is inspirational and stands as the example of a life well-lived. Thank you, Larry.
~ Ellen Welch - August 19, 2016
I first met Larry in 1987 - a year after he graduated high school. We both worked for Lakemary with the special needs children. From the moment I met him, I knew that Larry had a big personality, a big heart and was a very honest decent, caring and loving person. Our paths crossed several more times through the years, but in 1987 I never imagined that he would also have an impact on my children. My two sons Lane and Luke---- are deeply saddened by his death, but on a positive note, they were both energized and greatly influened by the way he lived and the things that he taught them, stood for, and the values and qualities that Larry Criddle possessed. He touched us all in a personal and POSITIVE manner. I want to remember Larry not for how he died, but for how he lived. Rest in peace my friend. Your legend lives in all of us.
Casey Hanf and family

Larry made everyone feel as if they were special and his best friend. He was a creative and inspiring teacher, who the students loved dearly. His positive attitude and motivation radiated throughout our community and schools. He will be missed by thousands and his legacy will live forever.
~ Lesley Wilson - August 19, 2016
His smile. Larry had this smile that could brighten the worse of days. As newcomers to Paola Middle School, Larry was one of the first to welcome our family and make us feel like part of his family. We are so sorry for your loss. We were all very blessed to have gotten the chance to know Larry. He will be remembered with a big smile; just the way he would have wanted it.
~ Diane Van Hoecke - August 19, 2016
I first remember Larry as a young boy when he played Little League Baseball for my husband Doug Minden and my husband always picked him up on the way to the ball fields. He became one of
my favorite young men through the years and always greeted me with a smile and a hug. He will be missed in our community and our schools. I have one of his books he gave me with a note
to thank us for believing in him through the years.
~ Mary Minden - August 19, 2016
I first met Larry many years ago when he was teaching my just starting college age son's Sunday School class. My son told me how excited he was by his teachings and service ideas. Then I met him and understood. I have had the privilege to know him and see how many lives he touched daily. I will miss him too and his infectious smile. I have already been led by Jesus this year to reach out to others in ways very different than I ever have before. Thank you Larry for you love for people and the Lord.
~ Cheryl Townsend - August 19, 2016
Larry had an aura about him that was radiant! His compassion for others and positive attitude were contagious and made me want to be more like him. Although there weren't many, I walked away from each encounter with Larry with a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart. If we all had his energy and love, the world would be a much better place. RIP Larry....

We appreciate all Larry has given to the children of our community. A special thank you for our beautiful memories of how Larry represented Christ to us, helping us to know what it means to love one another as You have loved us. RIP Larry.
~ David & Dixie Borovicka - August 19, 2016
No one could ever ask for a more caring and loving person than Larry. I will always cherish our talks and crazy walks through town (even when we get attacked by a dog...lol). Larry never asked why or turned anyone away that needed to talk, cry or be hugged. Thank you for loving me, Donnie and our kids. We love you and miss you. Until we walk together again. RIP
~ Tracy Rankin - August 19, 2016
My thoughts and prayers to the family. Larry was such a kind and influential man, he did so much for the community, for the students he taught, tutored and helped throughout the years. Personally I know he was a huge influence on my son when he was depressed and felt hopeless, when he thought the world had left him in the dark. Larry counseled him and helped him through his depression. He did things selflessly and without thought, it was just a part of who he was. He did these things because he cared about the people. Not just specific people, he cared about all the people. Someone shared on Facebook that they didn't think that had ever been anyone else that had touched this community as much as Larry had, for many years and they're right. From the children to the community projects that he worked on, he will be missed. The Angel of our community has now joined God's heavenly presence. Jesus cradle him in your loving arms, we will all miss him. Lisa and Ethan Preston.
~ Lisa Preston - August 19, 2016
You shared so much of your amazing ability to counsel, console, teach and love over the years that I knew you. What a blessing you were. I'll see you again, dear friend, and we'll finally get to do that gardening together. RIP...
