Harold Edward Achey, age 84, passed away December 4, 2016 at Country Club Estates in Paola.

Harold was born on May 14, 1932 to Ray and Mary Russell Achey in Paola, Kansas. He was married to Greta Nordstrom on February 1, 1957 in Paola, KS.

Harold was employed by Hercules Aero Space Plant in DeSoto, Kansas as a young man. He was transferred twice to the Hercules Plant in Salt Lake City, Utah. After the plant closed, he became a Nursing Home Administrator, building Country Havens, which opened in 1976.

He was involved in the American Legion and the Paola Optimist Club. He loved playing the drums and played at the “well-known” PlayMart and also played with many other bands even after his retirement. Harold played golf and he and his wife loved to dance and did so at every opportunity. Harold was a kind and gentle person and his sons and grandchildren had a great deal of respect for him. His wife of almost 60 years felt a security that was needed in their marriage.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Phillip. He is survived by his wife, Greta Nordstrom Achey, of Paola, KS; sons, Dale Achey of Reynosa, Mexico and David Achey of Paola, KS; sister, Verla Thomas, of Olathe,11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
