Elmer John Fanning, age 94, of Paola, passed away peacefully with family by his side Saturday May 23rd at North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola.

Elmer was born May 7, 1921 in Olathe, Kansas the youngest child of Jack and Emma Zillhart Fanning. Elmer was a dairy farmer his entire life. When he retired from the dairy he continued to farm, living in Paola since 58. On September 16, 1948 Elmer was united in marriage to Frances Bauer in Olathe, Kansas. They were parents of four children.

Elmer enjoyed gardening and raising strawberries and all kinds of sports. He attended Paola High School football games, Little League, American Legion and High School Baseball games, as long as his health permitted.

Preceding Elmer in death were his parents, wife Frances, daughter Barbara Gunn, sister Geneva and brothers Orville and Clarence.

Survivors are his children, daughter Patty (Hank) Armstrong, son John (Debbie), son Tom all of Paola, 5 grandchildren Kenny Gunn, Dawn Stites, James and J.J. Fanning, Michael Fanning, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to North Point staff for their loving care and compassion the past 3 1/2 years Elmer resided there.

Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus or the Paola American Legion Baseball program.
