Jacqueline Marie (Day) Tinsley, 82, died Sunday July 5, 2015 peacefully at Life Care in Osawatomie, Kansas.

Jackie was born February 9, 1933 in Nevada, Missouri To Herbert Charles Day and Mildred Naomi (Hill) Day.

She enjoyed her four grandchildren Heidi Nichole (Tinsley) Shulista (Bob), Michael Lawrence Tinsley (Kayla), Raechelle Marie Tinsley (Traci), and Nathaniel S.S. Tinsley (Jenny). Jackie was thrilled to become a great-grandmother to 14 children and she babysat at every opportunity. She loved attending all the activities of her grandchildren, then great grandchildren, bird watching, and reading. Jackie was also very talented at crocheting. She was a member of the Fort Scott Presbyterian Church for many years, singing in the choir as a young person and she attended many churches throughout her life.

She graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1949 and attended Fort Scott Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Olin Tinsley. They were married on June 5, 1950. They became the parents of three children, Mark Charles, Lawrence Kenton, and Randall James. Jackie was a stay at home mom in Overland Park, Kansas for several years. Then during four years in the 1960’s she and Lawrence owned and operated the bowling establishment in Oskaloosa, Kansas. It was a family affair with additional help from her mother-in-law Leota Tinsley, father-in-law, Charlie Tinsley and her sister-in-law Charlotte (Tinsley) Early (Gary). The family moved to Paola, Kansas in 1967 and back to Fort Scott in the early 70’s. Jackie retired from Kansas Social Rehabilitative Services after working 20 plus years for the agency in several Kansas towns including Paola and Pittsburg. She also worked a short time for the Tuberculosis Hospital in Chanute, Kansas. In their retirement years Jackie and Larry lived in Zapata, Texas, LaCygne, Kansas and Paola, Kansas. The vocation she loved the most was her stint as a volunteer foster grandparent in Paola.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, son Randy and sister Mary Jo (Day) Tillford.

Survivors include her spouse, Larry, sons Mark (Cindy) and Larry (Mary), 4 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Foster Grandparents Program in care of the funeral home.
