Kenneth Richard Miller, 85, of the New Lancaster community, passed away August 30, 2015.

He was born on November 13, 1929, on the Miller family farm west of New Lancaster, Kansas, the youngest child of George D. and Lena Ellsworth Miller. His mother died when he was 14 months old. His father remarried and he was raised by his new mother, Pearl. He graduated from La Cygne High School in 1947.

After high school, he spent the summer of 1947 with his dad and step-mother picking fruit in Oregon and Washington, farming in Montana and fishing on the Rouge River near Agnes, Oregon.

He joined the U. S. Navy in 1951 and served until 1955 traveling throughout the world including Germany, Japan, Cuba and the Panama Canal. He served mainly on troop transport ships. One of his favorite duties was the driver for the ship’s captain while in Cuba.

While in the Navy, he met his wife, Doris Lee McKeand, through mutual friends in West Virginia. They got married in West Virginia on September 13, 1954 after a 2-day hurricane delay. After leaving the Navy, they returned to the family farm and ran a dairy farm. Later, he switch to beef cattle and worked for Pittman Manufacturing in Grandview, Missouri. He lived on the Miller family farm all of his life.

He was an active member of the New Lancaster United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, sisters Fern Rader and Lola Jones and brother Daune Miller.

Survivors include his daughters Teresa Copling (Jerry Geiger) and Lisa Kincaid (Mike); grandson Chris Kincaid (Jordonna); sister Beulah Baker; and in-laws Romalea Miller, Russell McKeand, Wincel McKeand, Dee McKeand, and Dolly McKeand.

Memorials may be made to the New Lancaster United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
