Kenneth Raymond Friedrich Bond died 9 February 2016.

Ken Bond as he was called for many years was born on 5 November 1924 to Raymond Gilbert Bond and Orpha Helen Klueber in Chicago, Illinois. He had two brothers and two sisters. His childhood years were spent during the Great Depression. He served his country for almost 4 years in the United States Navy attaining the rating of Petty Officer First Class-Ships Cook. His love for his country and the U. S. Navy never ceased.

His family was his greatest love. In 1944 he was married to Elizabeth Stewart in Long Beach, California. To them were born Katherine Bond Altaras of Dallas, Texas and Rebecca Irene Bond Hladky of Overland Park, Kansas. In 1974 Elizabeth died at Miami, Florida. Later in 1974, he was united in marriage to Arleene Slack of Paola, Kansas. She brought to this union two daughters Jeanie Slack Goodwin of Spring Hill, Kansas and Janet Slack Straley of Paola, Kansas to complete this blended family of 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Arleene Slack Bond died in 2006 at Paola, Kansas.

Ken Bond began his “civilian” career in Paola, Kansas as a meat cutter for the Kroger Company in 1946. He served that company as a head meat cutter, and then in 1952, he was promoted to meat buyer for the company’s Kansas City division. In 1960 he joined the Scrivner Company of Oklahoma as meat merchandiser for about 400 retail stores. In 1964 he joined the Shoprite Foods Company of Albuquerque, New Mexico’s Amarillo, Texas division as division meat manager. In 1968 Bond became sales manager of the Dougdale Beef Packing Company at St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1970 Bond joined the Associated Grocers of Miami, Florida as director of meat operations. In 1974 he was promoted to Vice President of perishable sales and operations.

He retired in 1989 and returned to Kansas to begin his “best work” that as grandfather and great grandfather, and elder in the Presbyterian Church.

His love for his family motivated his ambitions, dreams, and principles all of his adult life. His love for his church and its mission fulfilled much of his working life. He believed that God had blessed him with the desire to live his life as best as he could, according to the teachings of His Son Jesus Christ. His love for the future generations of his beloved family is unending… “One generation passeth away – another generation cometh.”

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Paola.
