George Zachariah Swearingen, age 74, passed away August 18, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center.

George was born March 8, 1939 to Robert E. and Enid Priestly Swearingen in Paola, Kansas. He married Vivian McMahan on September 3, 1981 in Paola.

George loved his grandchildren and really looked forward to their visits. He also had great joy in visiting with his nieces and nephews and listening to the stories they most remembered about him. He always seemed to be thankful for what he had. He was a welder up until his retirement and was well known for his polka dot hat. After becoming a Christian he was known to read his bible faithfully and pray daily for his family members, his neighbors, and anyone mentioned needing prayer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; step-son David; three brothers Edward, Donald, and Bill; and three sisters Shirley Ricketts, Mamie Gadleman and Fern Needham.

He is survived by his son Ryan Swearingen and wife Angie of Evansville, IN; two sisters Aleta Rosner (Don) and Ruth Lohaus (Karl); two brothers Roy Swearingen (Louise) all of Paola and Norman Swearingen (Helen) of Stockton, MO; five grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
