Steven Robert Huber, age 67 of Paola, KS passed away on February 16, 2015 at Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Steve was born on August 6, 1947 in Emporia, Kansas to Robert and Margaret Moore Huber. Steve was the oldest of three sons. His father was in the service so much of Steve’s younger years were spent in different cities and countries. Following his father’s death in 1962, Steve moved to Osage City, Kansas with his mother and brothers. Steve attended school in Osage City through 12th grade. He joined the Army in November of 1966. Steve served his country during the Vietnam War and was very proud of having done so.

Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to Osage City. The weekend he came home, he met Janet Underwood in Emporia, Kansas. Married in 1970, she was his devoted wife of nearly 45 years. Steve and Janet became the parents of three sons. The couple moved to Paola, Kansas in 1972 when Steve went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He worked with the Missouri/Union Pacific Railroad through the early 1990s. After that, Steve ran his own lawn service business.

Steve was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Post 3712, a member of the American Legion and the Paola Eagles. Steve enjoyed fishing, family gatherings, playing cards, yard work, gardening, and cooking. He especially enjoyed barbequing. He was a huge KU basketball fan and an avid supporter of anything his grandchildren were involved in.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John T. “Terry” Huber in 2012. Steve is survived by his wife, Janet; three sons: Brent (Ronda) and Brad (Shelly) of Paola, and Brian (Chellie) of Oronogo, MO; and one brother, Doug Huber of Seattle, WA. Steve has seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Huber, Brock Huber, Bryce Huber, Aubrey Huber, and Jackson Huber of Paola, and Bryna Huber and Brylee Huber of Oronogo, MO.

Memorials may be made to Olathe Hospice House or VFW Scholarship Fund.
